Y, Tool and Divine Sceptre

As simple in appearance as its symbolism is complex, it has remained unchanged in its form from the old illus-trations to its transition in a refined form to the linear and proto-Canaanite.
There is a Phoenician form called « waw » whose symbolism is a hook or a crook, quite close in spirit to the writing of an open circle overlooking a rod.

The curved staff is the sceptre that is very present on the sarcophagi of great people. Accompanied by the flagellum or fly whisk, the royal posture is arms crossed over the chest, the hands clasping each of the two objects.
The ancestors of the Phoenicians may have thought that the Egyptians were taking things a little too far by offering them as a letter what represented their material and cultural power.
However, it should be noted that many religions have preserved this ancestral symbol of Egypt under the name of crosier.
